‘R2,8K PER HOUR’: DJ WARRAS OPENS UP ABOUT SALARY AMID PENNY NTULI DRAMA
Gagasi FM have found themselves trending after presenter Penny Ntuli revealed that she had resigned from the station.
According to Penny who shared a lengthy open letter on social media, her decision to leave comes after she was offered only R2800 per month.
The said amount was for the graveyard show on Sundays between 1:00 and 4:00.
“It’s been an amazing two years there. I am grateful to be considered as one of the talents that have been given an opportunity to showcase their talents once again in the new season on your platform.
“However, the salary of R2 800 per month on my offer letter or contract is not something I can sustain my life with,” Ntuli wrote in her resignation.
The admission left social media users shocked as they discussed the salary offer and how “unreasonable” it is.
Radio presenter Penny Lebyane also weighed in sharing that she too has limited earning potential in the radio industry:
“If l told u how much l make on the [sic] radio currently u’ll [you’ll] be equally shocked and even the highest amount l made when l left #MetroFm in 2010/11. l was never paid more than 30k, even when l hosted 12:00 to 15:00 but man even with a single show got more and my ‘co-hosts’ got more,” wrote Lebyane.

NOT ALL BAD
Former Gagasi FM presenter DJ Warras, however, shocked many when he revealed how much he got paid when he worked there.
Also on X (formerly Twitter,) Warras tweeted that he earned R2800 an hour.
“R2800 per hour Bafo,” he responded to an X user asking about his salary at the time.

Needless to say, the disparity left many locals shocked. “You were very fortunate to make R42000 a week, which is fair enough. But for a R2800 a month, that’s a bloody rip off. That’s when the boss doesn’t value your craft, and trying to put an end on your talent,” one person commented.
