George Clooney says Mattew Perry ‘wasn’t happy’ despite success
American actor George Clooney shares how despite having a successful career, Matthew Perry ‘wasn’t happy’ with his life.
American actor George Clooney has opened up about his friendship to the late Matthew Perry, when they were both on hit NBC shows together.

In an interview with Deadline magazine, on Tuesday, 19 December, Clooney notes he knew the late Friends actor when he was 16 years old. He further notes how they use to play tennis together and reminisces about how funny Matthew Perry was.
“I knew Matt when he was 16 years old. We used to play paddle tennis together. He’s about 10 years younger than me. And he was a great, funny, funny, funny kid”, the actor shared.
George Clooney also recalled how badly Matthew Perry wanted to get cast as a regular on a TV show.
“All he would say to us, I mean me, [actor] Richard Kind and [filmmaker] Grant Heslov, was, ‘I just want to get on a sitcom, man. I just want to get on a regular sitcom, and I would be the happiest man on earth.’ And he got on probably one of the best ever,” Clooney shared,
He also shared that despite starring as Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom Friends, Clooney emphasised the late star “wasn’t happy”.

‘WE JUST KNEW THAT WASN’T HAPPY’
“It didn’t bring him joy or happiness or peace. And watching that go on the lot, we were at Warner Brothers, we were there right next to each other, it was hard to watch because we didn’t know what was going through him,” Clooney explained ad he referred to Matthew’s struggles with addiction.
George Clooney continued: “We just knew that he wasn’t happy, and I had no idea he was doing what, 12 Vicodin a day and all the stuff he talked about, all that heartbreaking stuff”.
Matthew Perry died at his home in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday, the 28 October. The late actor was found unresponsive by his assistant and appeared to have drowned in his Jacuzzi.
Perry’s funeral took place at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California, and was attended by the actor’s close friends and family.
