Backlash after SA boxer says dad’s killer was EFF supporter – WATCH
‘Propaganda’: SA boxer champion Chris van Heerden has been criticised for suggesting the man who murdered his dad was an EFF supporter.
South African boxing champion Chris van Heerden has courted controversy for suggesting the man who murdered his father was an EFF supporter. In recent days, the professional fighter has put the party’s leader Julius Malema on blast for “brainwashing” the public.
Last month, a video of Malema singing the contentious struggle song Kill The Boer went viral. Many critics have called out the outspoken politician for promoting “racial genocide.”

CHRIS VAN HEERDEN LINKS TO THE EFF TO DAD’S MURDER
In his latest tweet, Chris van Heerden admonished Julius Malema for calling on his EFF supporters to literally “Kill The Boer.”
The boxer – who is now based in California – made mention of his father, Daniel Christoffel, who was shot and killed near his farm in Meyerton in 2018.
Chris tweeted: “Here you will see a supporter of the EFF (dressed in red) doing exactly what his leader J Malema is encouraging Kill The Boer.”
He added: “The man he killed in this video is MY FATHER.”

According to the Sedibeng Star, Sabelo Dlamini – a security guard – was recently sentenced to ten years imprisonment for the murder of Chris van Heerden’s father. The murder trial lasted almost five years.
Chris said of Dlamini in a previous video: “I lost my father by a man shooting and killing my dad in his back, [who supports] the EFF.”

TWEEPS HAVE MIXED REACTIONS
While many Twitter users sympathised with Chris van Heerden’s loss, others suggested that his supposed link between his father’s killer and the EFF was a reach.
Some even called him an outright “liar”.

@Am_Blujay: “Linking EFF to Sabelo Dlamini because he is wearing red is propaganda, and you are manipulating people to feel sympathy for you while you spread misinformation. That man works for Red Ants Security and he is wearing his uniform”
@CameronPetersSA: “Lying about us isn’t gonna help your case. So a security guard is now a so-called EFF member because he is wearing red in an old video that you now claim is somehow linked to our 10th anniversary, which happened a week ago?”
@LesibaNgwato: “Why are you spreading misinformation? Julius had nothing to do with this matter. Tell people the truth and stop manufacturing panic.”
@VeryTiredAngry: “Liar. 1. Not an EFF member. 2. Happened five years ago. 3. Nothing to do with the song.”
