A video showing a farmer getting sexy with his tractor has South Africa in stitches.
Essentially, the ad – by King Price Insurance – is about something being lost in translation, which happens all too often in SA. The company says that’s one of the reasons it goes to great lengths to write their policy wording in easy-to-understand language
Natalie Bisset, general manager of marketing, says King Price is “informal, funny and a little tongue in cheek, but always respectful”; and that as a proudly South African brand it’s big on humour (“we take the ‘eina’ out of insurance”).
The ad is already working – it’s been viewed more than 300,000 times and went viral worldwide on WhatsApp.
The commercial was conceived by film-maker duo Bennie Fourie and Bouwer Bosch, and is based on a joke that Fourie’s dad likes to tell.
