JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – South Africa’s Solidarity, a union representing high-skilled workers, said on Thursday that it has agreed a three-year wage deal with state power utility Eskom, bringing an end to weeks of negotiations that led to load shedding (otherwise known as power outages).
The much larger National Union of Mineworkers earlier said it had reached the same deal with Eskom. The agreement includes a 7.5 % increase this year and a 7 % rise in each of the next two years.
According to local reports, some employees may still face disciplinary action despite the wage deal.
