South Africans can breathe a sigh of relief as the planned loadshedding today, Sunday 13 December, has been cancelled. Eskom said in a statement on Sunday morning that it was pleased to announce that the emergency generation reserves had sufficiently recovered overnight and subsequently no loadshedding would be required.
“Eskom thanks the people for their understanding and support during the implementation of loadshedding,” said Eskom, adding: “While this is the case, Eskom urges the public to continue using electricity sparingly as the power system is still severely constrained. We will communicate timeously should there be any significant changes to the power system.”
Eskom currently has 8 229MW on planned maintenance, while another 10 661MW of capacity is unavailable due to unplanned maintenance.
Eskom teams are faithfully working around the clock to return as many of these units to service as soon as possible.
