Unisa offering FREE learning courses
The University of South Africa (Unisa) is offering some of its course material online for free. Here’s more about what and where.
The University of South Africa (Unisa) is offering a series of its courses on their website for free.
This is a move by the university to promote free education, matching similar programs by institutions like MIT that have released some of their course material available to readers at no cost.
Here’s more about where to find Unisa free courses, and why free education could be one of the most important things for South Africa to have more of.
UNISA PROMOTES FREE EDUCATION
A statement released by Unisa says that free online courses ‘could be a path to higher education’, but that awareness of these options is low amongst students and educators.

Courses provide free reading material for readers, and match the content that is contained in some paid courses or certifications. Material offered for free, might be a way for students to find directions (and topics) they enjoy – and learn more.
Free online course material might not provide a certificate upon completion, but might open up a world of reading opportunities for bright minds.
UNISA: FREE ISIZULU COURSE
One of the courses that Unisa is offering for free is their isiZulu course, which can be accessed at the below link.
The course covers basic greetings and sayings, but also goes into more complicated isiZulu conversation that can be useful for anyone to learn.

This initiative is part of their Open courses, which might expand with more learning material in time.
OTHER ‘OPEN’ UNIVERSITY COURSES
Unisa isn’t the only educational institution that has offered open university courses, or materials that are free to study for anyone.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offers several different courses through their Open Courseware program, which is similar to what the South African institution has on offer.
