Insurance company Old Mutual, is under fire on social media for allegedly defying a court order to pay a client for an unpaid insurance claim.

Sebabatso Molefi, in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), has been given her and her mother the run around in paying out her mothers pension.

UNPAID CLAIM

“Dear @OldMutualSA please advise why you are refusing to release my mother’s money even though a court order has been provided. You are in contempt of court and I am about to lose my cool right now”, she wrote.

Molefi claims her mother invested R3 million of her pension money into Old Mutual.

A court order dated 14 December 2023, orders the company make two payments to a trust account of their client’s attorneys.

OLD MUTUAL RESPONDS

In correspondence shared by Molefi, Old Mutual requested she remove her social media posts.

Old Mutual issued a public statement, further warned that complying with the court order will be against law.

“Such order would contravene relevant legislation, including the Pension Fund Act and Income Tax Act” the statement read.

The company says it will engage with Molefi’s lawyers and may also take the matter to court
