From April 2024 onwards, a new R370 SASSA SRD Grant will be available to anyone who qualifies. If you earn less the R634 per month you will be eligible for the new R370 SRD Grant disbursed by the South African Social Security Agency.
The SRD grant will increase by R20 from R350 to R370 from next month (April 2024) onwards. The government stipend was created during the COVID-19 pandemic to assist those with zero financial means who live below the Food Poverty Line (R760 per month). It has been extended every year since.

How do you make sure you’re in the queue for the new R370 SASSA SRD Grant? Well, if you have access to the internet, visit the SASSA SRD website HERE. Simply follow the prompts after entering your cellphone number.

- Answer a series of questions via text (as explained in the video above).
- Confirm your citizenship status and where in South Africa you reside.
*The agency says you must only apply for the new R370 SASSA SRD Grant once. Do not apply through multiple systems as it will complicate the process and put your application at risk.
KEEP YOUR APPLICATION FOR THE NEW R370 SASSA SRD GRANT UP TO DATE

1. COMPLETE
This means SASSA has received your SRD grant application, but has not approved your application.
2. PENDING
SASSA is in the process of verifying your application. There is no further action you need to take.
3. APPROVED
This means SASSA has approved your grant application. You will see when your next payment date is due.
4. BANK DETAILS PENDING
If SASSA does not have banking details or a chosen payment method, you need to update this urgently. You can submit your banking details HERE.
5. REAPPLICATION PENDING
SASSA has not received your reapplication for the new R370 SASSA SRD Grant. You must resubmit urgently HERE.
6. DECLINED
The agency has declined your application because you did not meet all the criteria. The reason why will be given to you.
7.CANCELLED
If you have cancelled your SASSA SRD grant benefits. Don’t forget, you can always reapply at any time if your circumstance change.
8. REFERRED
This applies if SASSA believes you’re acting fraudulently. This can either be due to your wrongdoing or a third party that is tampering with your account. Email: referred@sassa.gov.za to rectify.
If your SASSA SRD grant has been declined, you can lodge an appeal through the Department of Social Development HERE.
MARCH AND APRIL PAYMENT DATES FOR THE NEW R370 SASSA SRD GRANT
March 2024: From Monday 25 March 2024 to Friday 29 March 2024 (Good Friday).
April 2024: From Wednesday 24 April 2024 to Sunday 28 April 2024.
*The agency warns that SRD grant payouts may take between 2-3 working days to reflect in you bank account.
The South African Social Security agency currently pays out 8.5-million SRD grants per month. It’s understood that’s only half of the total applications it receives each month (roughly 16-million). Every month the South African government spends more than R22 billion on social grants, or 17% of the country’s tax revenue.
