Here’s what you should know about LOTTO, and how you might know you’re playing too much.
LOTTO IS FOR RESPONSIBLE ADULTS
The Natrional Lottery rules stipulate that players must be 18 or older to participate.
Players must also be able to claim their own tickets, and must be able to sign a contract in the event that they claim their win.
It means that the National LOTTO is meant for responsible adults. No, children cannot play the National Lottery draw, or win, or claim!
RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING CONTACTS
If you spend too much time (or money) on the lottery, it can become a problem or addiction.
The good news: South Africa has a responsible gambling hotline, which can provide help and assistance for those in need.
Contact + 27 80 000 6008.
An email can also be sent to: helpline@responsiblegambling.org.za
WHAT IS RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING?
According to the National Gambling Board (NGB), gamble responsibly.
While it’s okay to spend money on games of chance, it becomes a problem if you’re spending your grocery budget on tickets (or thinking about the LOTTO all the time).

Be responsible, and only play LOTTO when you can afford to.
PLAY LOTTO RESPONSIBLY
Responsible gambling means approaching the game of chance like an adult. Even though the lottery jackpots mean that money is at stake, play the LOTTO responsibly (and remember that it’s only a game!).
Play LOTTO for the love, not just for the money.
