The South African Social Security Agency has released payment details for June 2024 SASSA Social Relief of Distress grants. This months’ R370 disbursements are the first following the 29 May elections and subsequent cabinet shakeup due to the Government of National Unity.

JUNE 2024 SASSA SOCIAL RELIEF OF DISTRESS GRANTS
Therefore, as stated on their website, June 2024 SASSA Social Relief of Distress grants will start next week from Wednesday 26 June and run till Saturday 29 June. All SASSA SRD beneficiaries received an increase in their monthly grants back in April, raising the stipend from R350 to R370. This was stipulated by the Finance Minister earlier in the year, during the February 2024 budget speech.
The R20 increase is the first and only increase since the grant’s introduction during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. South African cost of living is quickly outpacing grant increases and many living near the poverty line are turning to indigent benefits and debt reduction from local municipalities to ease the financial burden. HOW TO SECURE YOUR OWN SRD GRANT
However, if you’re struggling financially, here’s how you can become one of the millions of SASSA SRD beneficiaries. It’s all done online:
- Visit the SRD portal HERE.
- Input your cell phone number and click Send SMS.
- Enter the 6-digit OTP number sent to your phone and click Verify Pin.
- Submit your South African ID number or Special Permit Number.
- Provide personal details to get onto the system – Name, Surname, Address, and Gender.
- Enter your banking details – Bank Name, Branch, Account Type, and Number)
- Alternatively, you may select the payment option Send Cash.
The Department of Home Affairs will verify your details on its database, upon which you will receive confirmation on your cell phone that your SASSA SRD grant is active.
CHECK YOUR SRD STATUS
Once approved, SASSA SRD beneficiaries must reapply and check their status each month to continue to receive SRD benefits:
- Go to the official SASSA Status Check portal HERE.
- Enter your South African ID in the ID Number section.
- Type in the cell phone number you used to submit your grant application.
- Click on Check Now to submit.
- Check every month if your grant has been approved.
