Department of Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has confirmed the appointment of Dan Marokane as Eskom Group Chief Executive.
The appointment of Marokane as head of the embattled power utility was announced on Friday, 8 December. Here are a few things we know about him.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT DAN MAROKANE
Marokane is expected to join Eskom no later than 31 March 2024.
- Daniel Marokane is a qualified Chemical Engineer who also holds an MBA.
- The 50-year-old is a seasoned executive with over 20 years in the oil, gas and power industries in various operational and strategic leadership roles.
- He was previously the Chairman of Eskom Enterprises Board, and the Eskom Roshcon and Rotek Industries Board.
- He also served as a member of the UK High Commission Management Board in South Africa and is a member of the University of Johannesburg Engineering Advisory Board.
- He joined Tongaat Hulett as an executive in January 2018 and carried various responsibilities as the organisation embarked on the turnaround journey and was appointed to the Tongaat Hulett Board on 18 November 2019.

Eskom Board chairperson Mteto Nyati said Marokane has an in-depth knowledge of the Eskom environment.
“He leads from the front. He will hit the ground running. That is what Eskom and South Africa need right now,” Nyati said.
