DA blames state capture on ANC’s cadre deployment

The DA has blamed the ANC for enabling state capture by interfering in judiciary appoints through the ANC’s cadre deployment.

The ANC’s deployment committee interfered in appointments across the State and even extended its tentacles into the judiciary, says the Democratic Alliance (DA), which has been studying the ANC’s cadre deployement records after winning a court application.

The party says the documents revealed that despite President Cyril Ramaphosa telling the Zondo Commission into State Capture, the ANC could not appoint judges; it still attempted to have a hand in the judiciary and the chief justice’s independence.

ANC’S CADRE DEPLOYMENT RECORDS OBTAINED THROUGH CONSTITUTIONAL COURT ORDER

“All this has been underscored by the ANC’s own records recently obtained by the DA following an order of the Constitutional Court. The minutes reveal that the ANC unlawfully interfered with appointments across the StateState, reaching all the way to the highest court in the land,” said Leon Schreiber, the DA’s Shadow Minister of Public Service and Administration.

The Independent Online reported that the documents contained a letter from the party’s late deputy secretary general, Jessie Duarte, to now Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola, about a woman advocate whose name was removed from the candidate shortlist for a Constitutional Court bench vacancy.

‘RACKETEERING SYNDICATE THAT HAS CORRUPTED THE STATE,’ SAYS DA

Describing the document’s contents as “a racketeering syndicate that has corrupted the State”. Schreiber said they would work diligently to unveil the network of cadre deployment.

“ANC cadre deployment laid the foundation for state capture, for systemic corruption, and for the service delivery collapse that caused load shedding, water-shedding, and the accelerating failure of the State,” he said.

DA TO HOST MEDIA BRIEFING TO UNPACK ANC’S CADRE DEPLOYMENT RECORDS

The DA says some names have been redacted from the publicly released documents, which include CVs and ID numbers, due to the Protection of Personal Information Act.

The DA will host a media briefing on Friday where it will unpack some of the details that emerged from the documents handed over by the ruling party.
