Pet owners need to prepare their animals before going on vacation.

Fish are low-maintenance pets, but they still need to be fed while you’re away.

There are different options for feeding fish during vacations.

Here we’ll discuss the available options, their advantages and disadvantages, and how to prepare beforehand.

1. USE A PET SITTER

Pet owners typically hire a pet sitter to care for their pets during vacations.

Regardless of the type of pet, they will require some care and possibly supervision.

Fish sitting is relatively easy compared to dogs or cats, but they still need to be fed and checked on.

It’s recommended to ask a trusted friend or family member to visit your home and feed your fish as you would if you were there.

2. AUTOMATIC FEEDER

An automatic feeder is an option for feeding fish during vacations.

It operates without your presence and can be programmed to dispense a specific amount of food at designated times.

Automatic feeders are user-friendly and cost-effective.

They are a convenient choice if you don’t have a reliable pet sitter to feed your fish while you’re away.

Automatic feeders can also be used regularly, even when you’re home, to eliminate the need for manual feeding.

3. VACATION FEEDER

A vacation feeder is an alternative for feeding fish during vacations.

They contain food in either a slow-release gel block or embedded into a calcium block.

Vacation feeders are available in different time frames: 2 days for weekend trips, 7 days, and 14 days.

The food blocks dissolve gradually in water, releasing the food over time.

The slow dissolution prevents the release of too much food at once.
