The snow has arrived in bucketloads in Southern Africa, transforming ski resorts into a winter wonderland that looks more like the Alps than Africa!
About 10cm of snow fell at Semonkong Lodge in Lesotho, and the good news is, it’s still falling! Definitely a winter wonderland across Lesotho today.
Semonkong Lodge, Place of Smoke, says:
“We knew it was coming and we were not disappointed. We have woken to the most beautiful views across the gorge and the lodge is completely covered in a stunning crisp blanket of snow.”
At Afriski Mountain Resort, they reported at least 5cm of snow had fallen around the top of the Afriski bowl “and it’s still snowing!”
Please note, Afriski says “roads are closed to 2×4 vehicles, and 4×4 vehicles are advised to proceed with extreme caution. These conditions can change quickly, so please keep checking https://afriski.net/mountain-conditions/ for live road status updates.”
Meanwhile in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, there are beautiful views of snow-capped mountains in the northern Drakensberg. Book at Berghouse & Cottages.
The South African Weather Service had warned South Africans in many parts of the country to brace for an icy cold and snowy weekend as two winter systems breezed in. Next week, conditions should start getting warmer!
