Here’s what it means for the future of the Child Support Grant.

The quotation reads:

‘We do not want freedom without bread, nor do we want bread without freedom. We must provide for all the fundamental rights and freedoms associated with a democratic society.’

This focuses attention on the need for government support, which is called for from all government departments in a position to assist.

The speech by Minister Lindiwe Zulu took place on 6 October, discussing the history and future of the Child Support Grant.

SASSA: WHAT ELSE THE SPEECH SAYS

The speech also says that the government is ‘concerned’ about high levels of child poverty rates in South Africa.

In the same speech, Ms Zulu says that a ‘whole of government approach’ will be necessary to eradicate experiences linked to child poverty.

‘The cumulative cost of children who live in poverty and those who experience hunger will only be realised in the future.’
