South Africa has a new Miss South Africa 2017. She is Adè van Heerden, who was initially named first princess in the contest. Now that the previous Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, has won the Miss Universe title and will be busy with her global duties (watch below), Adè will take over as the nation’s title holder.
Until last week Adè was busy working as a medical doctor (and second lieutenant) in the South African National Defence Force, based at Military 2 Hospital in Cape Town.
The 25-year-old posted a photo on Facebook this afternoon, after the official ceremony in Sandton, saying: “That moment when a dream becomes a reality. Thank you @casperdesigner for making me feel like a true queen.Thank you, South Africa. My hope is to serve you well as your new #MissSA2017.”
Adè was also placed in the Top 10 at the Miss World pageant in early November, the first time a South African princess has scooped a Top 10 spot. She was also one of the winners of Beauty with a Purpose. One of her missions is to help young women overcome mental health issues.
Second princess, Boipelo Mabe, now becomes first princess.
Meanwhile Demi-Leigh Nel Peters is charming the world. Miss South Africa organisers said: “Media week has been a breeze for our Demi and she’s definitely making waves in New York. Here is a snippet from her latest interview with Live with Kelly and Ryan…”
