Cape Epic a moving story

TEAM RWANDA CYCLING is a story about redemption, hope, and second chances.  Tom Ritchey, renowned mountain bike industry pioneer, first visited Rwanda in 2005.  Awed by the natural beauty of Rwanda, he was also deeply moved by the people and their stories of reconciliation and hope.  Tom knew he could use his talent and resources to help make a difference.  He founded Project Rwanda, a nonprofit that created and distributed cargo-bearing utility bikes to impoverished coffee growers.  In addition, Tom recruited his long-time friend and cycling legend Jock Boyer to form, coach, and mentor the young men who would become Rwanda’s first National Cycling Team.  The mission of Team Rwanda Cycling is to search for talent to empower, enable and to inspire not just individuals but families, communities and a nation through cycling. ADRIEN NIYONSHUTI lost 60 of his family in the Genocide. Maybe because he sought purpose behind his pain, maybe because it was the only way to stop his overpowering headaches, maybe he just had a gift, but Adrien started cycling in 2003.  Three years later Adrien rode a Mountain Bike for the first time, catching Jock and winning a local race.  Adrien joined Team Rwanda and blossomed under Jock’s mentorship.  In 2011, Adrien qualified for the Olympic Games, a bold achievement that would send shockwaves throughout Rwanda and the World, a living example that the ghosts of our past have no power over our future.
