South Africa’s Ntokozo Mbuli Shows Giant Support for Elephants 

Popular 50/50 television presenter Ntokozo Mbuli, who enters South Africans’ living rooms each Sunday, has announced she is becoming ambassador for the Rory Hensman Elephant Research and Conservation Unit (RHCRU).

During her ten years on the wildlife programme Ntokozo has won multiple awards, and is also – unknown to many – the show’s executive producer.

She says she is now taking a “giant step” forward in her love for wildlife by becoming he RHCRU ambassador.

“I fell in love with elephants when I spent time with some of the RHRCU researchers last World Elephant Day,” said Ntokozo, “and realised that I had to do something more to show my support for our tusked friends.

“The areas that RHCRU focuses on: reducing human-elephant conflict, elephant welfare, anatomy, scent detection and habitat protection are vital areas of research as we work towards ensuring that elephants have a sustainable future in Africa.”

Through knowledge, understanding and bringing researchers together from all over the world, RHCRU hopes to create a better, brighter future for African elephants as they face extinction in a modern world where wildlife has little place next to poor communities and economic gain, and poaching abounds.

According to RHCRU, the numbers of elephants have decreased by some 350% in the last 70 years and by 110,000 elephants in the last ten years (Great Elephant Census) due to poaching and habitat loss.
