South Africa’s Miss World contestant, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene (24), will not be bringing home the Miss World title, but while Ntandoyenkosi may not have made it into the Top 20 tonight at the pageant’s Grand Final… she has made it into South Africans’ hearts.
Miss Puerto Rico Stephanie Del Valle was crowned Miss World 2016 on Sunday in Washington. Second runner up was Indonesia, and first runner up was Dominican Republic.
This evening, Ntandoyenkosi said before the final show: “I have always thought and dreamt of being Miss South Africa. Being a part of Miss World has been a blessing above and beyond my imagination.
“Today I am sharing a global stage with 115 women from all over the world. I am so proud of how far I have come and how I have constantly kept grounded in who I am.
“I started my journey with God and he shall carry me through it. I rest knowing that iNtandoyenkosi izokwenzeka.
“Am I nervous?! Yes I am ? but it’s more butterflies.”
Ntandoyenkosi, who holds a teaching degree and honours in Curriculum Issues, thanked all those who wished her well and had sent her so much love.
Miss Kenya was the only entrant from Africa to make it into the Top 5. She was applauded for her answer to a question on education in which she quoted South Africa’s – and the continent’s – Nelson Mandela.
On Thursday, South Africa’s former Miss World Rolene Strauss, who is currently pregnant with her first child, celebrated the second anniversary of her own big win.
