A video remake of the Spice Girls’ hit “Wannabe” has been launched to encourage girls and women across the world to share their messages and dreams for women and includes singers, actors and dancers from South Africa, Indian, the UK and US.
The video was made by Global Goals, which works to promote the United Nations’ 17 goals. Girls and women are encouraged to use the hashtag #WhatIReallyWant to share messages across social media demanding what they would like to improve their lives. These will then be presented to the UN General Assembly in September.
Some of the messages mentioned on Global Goals’ site are quality education for all girls, an end to violence against women, equal pay for equal work, an end to child marriage, an end to maternal mortality, no more girls infected with HIV.
The latest video features artists from South Africa, the UK, US, Nigeria, Canada and India, with the aim of getting women from around the world to tweet a picture.
