South African hip hop artist Cassper Nyovest released “War Ready” today, a video dedicated to the 750 killed and thousands others arrested and/or tortured following the Soweto Uprising in 1976.
Released this morning, the song has already received over 18,000 hits on YouTube and was one of the top trending items on Twitter in SA most of the day.
Cassper – real name Refiloe Maele Phoolo – was congratulated publically by SA President Jacob Zuma last year when he became the first local artist to fill up the Dome by selling out the 20,000 seating capacity venue in Northgate, without needing an international act.
Just yesterday he reminded his 1.7 million followers on Facebook: “Your dreams are YOUR DREAMS!!! Don’t let anybody taint them or make them more realistic than you envisioned them!!!”
Today he wrote: “ATTENTION!!! New Music Video out!!! New single from the album #Refiloe… War Ready!!! Need you to share this as much as you can so everybody gets to see it!!! We war ready!!!”
