A group of dads in Salt Rock, KwaZulu-Natal, have launched perhaps the raddest skate park ever. It’s certainly unique.
The Mamba Skate Park, which was officially opened last month, is totally different to most conventional skate parks you’ve seen or used – it’s a rolling track of 450 metres winding (or snaking!) through a jungle of trees and thick coastal bush (where you may find the odd mamba or two).
The Park even has spotlights for evening fun. (Locals are invited to test out the newly installed lights tonight…and there’s a braai of course!)
The Park was conceived by the fathers as a “safe-haven for youngsters wanting to exhaust their boundless energy in a sport that develops concentration, poise and confidence in a fast and dynamic communal environment.” (Of course the dads themselves are also enjoying the track!)
The Mamba Skate Park is likely to become a destination for international skateboarders and BMX riders and has already been featured (just yesterday) on the Facebook page of the Extreme Sports Company…which has a following of 800,000 sports enthusiasts around the world. Extreme endorsed the Park with the words “Mamba Skate Park in South Africa looks so gnarly!”
See for yourself…
