Impact of the 1 May public holiday on SASSA payment schedule
SASSA grants could be delayed due to the public holiday on 1 May, with recipients likely to receive their payments soon after the holiday.

With 1 May being a public holiday, many SASSA grant recipients may be wondering when they will receive their payments.
SASSA typically issues older persons’ and disability grants on the 1st of each month, but the public holiday could delay the process.
Will SASSA payments be delayed because of the 1 May public holiday?
Because 1 May is a public holiday (Workers’ Day), SASSA will not process any payments on that date. Instead, SASSA will issue payments from 3 May, as it typically processes grants on the next business day following a weekend or public holiday.
What to expect and when you will get paid
If you’re expecting to receive your SASSA payment for old age, disability, or care dependency grants, there’s no need to panic. While the 1st of May is a holiday, SASSA has always made sure that payments continue without major disruption. Even if you receive your payment via the Post Office, there will be no difference in when the funds are available. All money should come through soon after the holiday. The list is as follows:
- Old age – May 3
- Disability – May 6
- Child Support – May 7
SASSA urges all grant beneficiaries to make sure their banking and card details are updated to avoid delays in receiving their payments. To avoid long queues and ATM congestion, beneficiaries are also encouraged to collect their funds a day after said dates.
