Power outage in Pretoria CBD shuts down High Court

A power outage in the Pretoria CBD has forced the Gauteng High Court to temporarily cease operations on Tuesday, 18 February.

The Office of the Chief Justice has announced that the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria will temporarily close on Tuesday, 18 February, because of a power outage

The City of Tshwane has confirmed that a transformer tripped leading to the unplanned power supply interruption in the CBD and Marabastad.

PRETORIA HIGH COURT CLOSED DUE TO POWER OUTAGE

The Office of the Chief Justice said the court’s generator is currently out of commission.

“Affected parties will be contacted regarding alternative arrangements for all matters scheduled on the court roll today. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the office said.

The City of Tshwane said it aware of a power outage affecting parts of the Pretoria central business district (CBD) and Marabastad.

“A 132kV transformer has tripped at Boom Street Substation. Technicians are attending. The city apologises for the inconvenience caused by this unplanned interruption of power supply,” the metro municipality said.

JOHANNESBURG COURT CLOSED TO WATER WOES

Last week, the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg, temporarily closed its doors due to the ongoing water shortage gripping the city of gold.

The Office of the Chief Justice announced that the court ceased operations on Thursday, 13 February, citing a lack of water supply.

All court matters scheduled were rescheduled, with affected parties notified of alternative arrangements.

This was not the first time the court had to temporarily close due to lack of water supply. The closure highlighted the worsening impact of the water crisis on essential services and infrastructure in Johannesburg.
