Table View Beachfront refurbishment hits snag

The City of Cape Town’s R100 million Table View Beachfront project, launched in 2022, has encountered significant setbacks over the past year.

This comes from the City, who recently provided an update regarding the project and its delays.

CoCT revealed that the contractor’s agreement with them was terminated in November 2024 due to ongoing performance issues and failure to meet construction milestones.

The City added that new contractors would now be appointed, and that their focus would be on completing essential elements such as the stormwater outfalls; walkways; parking areas and ablution facilities.

Alderman Eddie Andrews, the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, said that they were committed to completing the project.

“We can assure residents that the team remains committed to successfully completing the Table View Beachfront upgrades and ensuring that all remaining work is carried out to the highest standards.” Andrews said.

“We assure the public that information around the new project timeline and regular updates on the project will be communicated through the local Ward Councillors, Sub-Councils and via the media. We share the frustration of the residents and thank all for their patience in the execution of this project,” he added.

An increased budget

As per details from Business Tech in 2023, this Cape Town beachfront project was initially estimated at R70 million, but then further increased to a budget of R108 million: R16 million in the 2022/23 financial year, R48 million in 2023/24 and R44 million in 2024/25.

The City of Cape Town is hopeful that work will recommence in April 2025, if all goes according to plan.
