Tshwane to implement a 12-hour power outage on Sunday
Some parts of the City of Tshwane will experience a planned power outage on Sunday, 15 December, to allow for essential upgrades.
City of Tshwane MMC for Utility Services, Cllr Frans Boshielo, has announced a planned power outage on Sunday, 15 December, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The outage will facilitate critical upgrades to the city’s electricity infrastructure, including relocating a 35 MVA transformer from the Gomsand substation to the Rosslyn substation and commissioning 11 kV panels at Rosslyn.
“These improvements are part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the power supply network,” said Boshielo.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank residents and businesses for their understanding.”

The outage will impact the following areas and companies:
- Residential Area: Gomsand Residential
- Industrial Areas: Gomsand Industrial
- Businesses:
- BMW
- Nedbank
- BEVA
- August/Leaple (MA)
- Asea
- Rautenbach
Cllr Boshielo urged businesses to plan accordingly, adding, “We recommend that businesses and factories in the affected areas use backup generators or other power solutions during the outage.”
Preparing for the power outage
The City of Tshwane encouraged residents to take precautionary steps, such as unplugging sensitive appliances, ensuring alternative lighting is available, and completing essential household tasks ahead of time.
“This necessary work will strengthen the electricity grid, ensuring better service delivery moving forward,” Boshielo concluded.
