Johannesburg and surrounding areas face 12-hour power outages this weekend
Residents in some areas of Johannesburg will be experiencing power outages during the weekend. Here’s the schedule.
Johannesburg will implement scheduled power outages this weekend to carry out maintenance on several substations.
Gauteng will be having widespread power outages with City Power informing residents of Johannesburg that there will be no electricity on Sunday in certain areas. The outages will mostly be for eight hours on Friday, while Sunday’s blackouts will be 12 hours long. Find out if you will be affected.
JOHANNESBURG POWER OUTAGES – FRIDAY
The city said “customers are hereby notified of a planned power interruption” at various substations on Friday, 13 December 2024. They further stated that these interruptions were to take place at various times. However, they will all last for eight hours. Some of the power outages are those that are being rescheduled from earlier dates. These are the areas that will be affected.
REGION E: VASCO DA GAMA SWITCHING STATION
Wynberg and Marlboro are the areas that will be affected from 9:00 to 17:00.
REGION F: CENTRAL SUBSTATION
From 8:00 till 16:00 Commissioner Street and Albertina Street along Loveday Street (Union Castle Building) will be without power.
REGION G: NANCEFIELD SUBSTATION
The maintenance for this substation was previously planned for 30 October. It will now happen this Friday from 8:00 to 16:00. Areas affected include Eldorado Park Extension one and three, Bushkoppies, Bushkoppies Sewer Pump (JW), Nancefield Industrial, Olifants Sewer Pump (JW), Klipspruit West Extension two, Coca cala (Devland).
REGION G: BUSHKOPPIES SWS
Another planned outage is at Bushkoppies SWS, from 8:00 to 16:00 affecting Bushkoppies, JW Compound and Sewage Farm.
JOHANNESBURG POWER OUTAGES – SUNDAY
The length of the power outages for Sunday, 15 December 2024, will be between seven and eight hours. Here are the affected areas.
REGION E AND F: CYDNA SUBSTATION
The hours for the blackouts are from 08:00 to 15:00, and there will be no electricity at these suburbs. Birdhaven, Melrose/Birdhaven, Chislehurstone, Riviera one and two, Houghton/Golf course, Norwood/Houghton, Killarney South, Fort Street, 7th Street, Dirnum Park, Oaklands/Houghton and Houghton Park.
REGION F: WEMMER SUBSTATION
The planned interruptions will be from 8:00 to 16:00 in Glenesk, Springfield, Stafford, Stafford Extensions one, two and four, Trojan and Turffontein.
REGION F: TURFFONTEIN SWITCHING STATION
Outages will be from 8:00 to 16:00 in Glenesk, Kenilworth, Robinson, Springfield, Stafford, Turffontein and Turffontein West.
Regarding the outages the City Power warned: “As the supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply as live.”
