Gauteng areas to face 36-hour water outage

Planned maintenance will cause a 36-hour water shutdown in specific areas of Gauteng in the coming days.

Rand Water has confirmed that scheduled maintenance in certain Gauteng areas will result in a 36-hour water shutdown starting Friday, impacting residents.

The City of Ekurhuleni has issued a statement detailing that numerous areas, including those in Benoni, will be affected. The water outages will be from Friday morning till Saturday afternoon. Find out if you will also be affected.

GAUTENG 36-HOUR WATER SHUTDOWN

Areas in Boksburg, Benoni and Katlehong 1 will have no water supply from 5:00 on 13 December to 17:00 on 14 December 2024. The water outage at Benoni will be due to maintenance being done at Zwartkopies Pump Station. The statement further said:

“Residents in affected areas are encouraged to plan ahead of the water supply interruption. However, the City of Ekurhuleni will provide roving water tankers to affected areas.” Here’s the list of affected areas:

Rand Water also urged residents by saying: “Residents are urged to store water for domestic use and to use water sparingly. Businesses and institutions are urged to maintain on-site storage that is equivalent to their daily demand or at least up to 36 hours. The system may take up to 48 hours to stabilise.”

SOME JOHANNESBURG RESIDENTS TO ALSO BE AFFECTED

The Zwartkopies Pump Station supplies certain areas in Johannesburg. The system and Reservoir complexes supplied by this pump station are Crown Gardens, Eagles Nest Reservoir, Parktown, Berea, Forest Hill, Alan Manor, Naturena, Aeroton, Orlando East and Hector Norris Pump Station.
