Cape Town to face 10-hour water supply disruptions in certain areas
Planned maintenance will disrupt water supply in parts of Cape Town for at least 10 hours starting Tuesday, December 10. Here’s what you need to know.
The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will carry out planned maintenance, causing water supply disruptions starting Monday, December 10.
Residents in affected areas are advised to store enough water in advance, as a precautionary measure.
CAPE TOWN AREAS AFFECTED BY WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPRIONS
The City of Cape Town said maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements will result in water supply disruption in these areas:
Strand—The water supply to the Strand area will be shut off from 8:00 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 10 December. This will allow the maintenance team to connect the newly installed water mains in Munnik Street and Joubert Street to the existing infrastructure.
The City of Cape Town said the whole of Strand will be affected. Unfortunately, the impacted area could not be reduced due to passing valves in the water supply network.
Part of Govan Mbeki Drive – Lansdowne / Hanover Park – The water supply to the area along Govan Mbeki Drive between Wetton Circle and Hanover Park Avenue, including the Lansdowne Corner Shopping Mall, the Astron Service Station, as well as Epilepsy SA in the vicinity of Fynn Close will be shut off from 8:00 until 18:00 on the following dates:
• Tuesday, 10 December 2024: To connect the newly installed pipeline to the existing water supply infrastructure.
• Thursday, 12 December 2024: To connect the newly installed pipeline to the existing water supply infrastructure.
