Holiday programmes for all

There will be a variety of fun holiday programmes on offer this December and January in Cape Town, hosted by the City’s Libraries and Information Services and Recreation and Parks Departments.

“The summer school holiday is probably the most anticipated break for our children. They’ve worked hard all year and our programmes are designed to reward them with fun and safe recreation.” Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross said in a statement.

“They have a legion of activities to choose from that will keep their minds and bodies active. We have hundreds of programmes planned for the next few weeks that will help them stave off boredom” she added.

This year’s holiday programmes will kick off from Thursday, 12 December 2024 until Tuesday, 14 January 2025 at various libraries, community centres, recreation facilities, sports grounds, play parks, green spaces and other public facilities in Cape Town.

What’s on offer?

Children can look forward to a wide range of activities from the City’s libraries and the Recreation and Parks Department.

The holiday programmes also cater for a variety of ages and interests such as nature, sport, music, art and theatre, and include indoor, outdoor, physical and non-physical activities.

Registration for each activity is offered on a first-come-first-serve basis, which takes place at the start of each event. Many of them are offered at no cost, however some require a minimal fee.

Each facility runs their own set of activities. Below is an overview of what is on offer across the facilities:

  • Animal talks
  • Arts and crafts
  • Boardgames
  • Career expo
  • Dance classes
