Early data points to an increase in petrol and diesel prices for December, according to the latest CEF data.

South African motorists who were hoping to get some relief in December will be disappointed as they now have to face another fuel hike. This comes after an increase in the cost of both petrol and diesel earlier this month.

Last week, the Automobile Association (AA) said the current unaudited data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) indicate a slight reduction in petrol prices, and more substantial increases to diesel and illuminating paraffin prices.

This week however, the CEF’s data projects that both diesel and petrol are set to climb next week. The official fuel price adjustments for December are likely to be announced at the end of November with the official adjusted fuel prices coming into effect on 4 December, the first Wednesday of the new month.

Petrol and Diesel prices to climb

“Planning for a long journey during the December/January break should begin now and should include a complete once-over of your vehicle to ensure it is ready for a long trip. In addition to keeping your vehicle in good condition, we also urge all road users to ensure their state of mind is equally ready to share the road with other road users and to play their part in keeping our roads safe this festive season,” said AA.

Here are the petrol and diesel price predictions (so far) for December but this could change next week:

  • Petrol 93: increase of 3 cents per litre (R0.03)
  • Petrol 95: decrease of 8 cents per litre (R0.08)
  • Diesel 0.05%: increase of 47 cents per litre (R0.47)
  • Diesel 0.005%: increase of 47 cents per litre (R0.47)
  • Illuminating Paraffin: increase of 42 cents per litre (R0.42)
