The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has cautioned the public against scammers posing as SARS officials and sending threatening messages regarding spaza shop registration.
Always verify the authenticity of such messages on the Scams & Phishing webpage.
Protect yourself at all times from scams and phishing!
Do not open or respond to emails from unknown sources.
Beware of emails or SMSs asking for personal, tax, banking or eFiling details.
SARS will never send you hyperlinks to other websites.

Unsuspecting taxpayers
Meanwhile, as previously reported by The South African website, SARS has warned the public regarding fraudsters sending emails to unsuspecting taxpayers and businesses pretending to be SARS employees.
The emails typically contain an attachment with a link where one can ‘settle an outstanding balance or debt’.
A real SARS employee’s name and contact details appear on the email signature, but if you look closely the email domain is different.
