Cape Town to implement essential 14-hour power outages
Certain areas of Cape Town will face power outages for at least 14 hours because of essential maintenance on electricity infrastructure.
As part of scheduled maintenance, six suburbs in Bonteheuwel and Epping, Cape Town, will experience power outages lasting at least 14 hours on Tuesday, 19 November.
The maintenance work will be carried out from 5:00 – 19:00 depending on the weather and if all goes to plan.
CAPE TOWN TO CONDUCT ELECTRICITY MAINTENANCE
The City of Cape Town has emphasised that the electricity supply interruptions will only impact the highlighted areas on the maps and only on the relevant dates.
In addition, the outage duration is an estimation and restoration could be delayed due to the complex nature of the infrastructure work.

POWER COULD BE RESTORED ANY TIME
The City of Cape Town said electricity supply could be restored at any time and customers must please treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the interruption.
“Residents are encouraged to switch off appliances as a precaution and to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on,” the metro said.
However, in the event that power is not restored within communicated timeframes, residents have been urged to check the the municipality’s official communication channels, including the social media channels. Alternatively, they can contact the call centre before logging a service request in relation to the planned maintenance work.
MORE MAINTENANCE WORK SCHEDULED
Earlier this week, the City of Cape Town also announced maintenance work in Bonteheuwel that will be carried out over three days on 21, 26, and 28 November 2024 from 08:30 to 16:00 if all goes to plan.
