City of Cape Town makes information available

City of Cape Town residents can now get latest water disruption updates directly from the Water and Sanitation Directorate now that the City has made information more readily available.

According to the City, in an effort to keep the public well informed about planned water maintenance, as well as unplanned water repairs and disruptions that could affect them temporarily, it will make information more available and timeous on different platforms.

This information can be accessed via the City’s WhatsApp Channel or City Alerts on X. Residents can also stay informed by downloading the City App, visiting the City’s website or contacting the call centre.

For both planned and unplanned disruptions, the City shares essential information on these platforms, including the start time, location, affected areas, description of the cause or type of work being undertaken and the current status of repairs.

How to access the information

Currently these updates are available to the public on these City platforms:

• City App
The daily water disruptions list is posted under Alerts and updated in regular intervals. The City app is available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Residents can also use the app to log service requests and log into e-Services to view or pay municipal bills.

• City Alerts
Follow @CityofCTAlerts on X (formerly Twitter) for new posts on water disruptions and traffic updates. This one-way communication platform is used to broadcast official City updates with a summary of the most relevant information, as frequently as possible.

• City’s Call Centre
When calling the City Call Centre on 0860 103 089, after selecting your preferred language, follow these steps for the latest information:

1. Press 2 for Water and Sanitation, Roads and Stormwater related complaints
2. Press 1 for Water and Sanitation related complaints
3. Press 9 to listen to a list of areas currently experiencing planned or unplanned water repairs and disruptions in Cape Town.
