Rhodes University marks its 120th anniversary this year and is set to commemorate this milestone with a special London Reunion on Thursday, 17 October.
The event will take place at Reform Social, W1U 2BE, starting at 18:30 (UK time), with vice-chancellor Sizwe Mabizela as the guest of honour.
Transformative leader
Mabizela, the vice-chancellor of the 120-year-old institution, has been a transformative leader since assuming his role in 2014.
He is a distinguished academic, holding a doctorate in Mathematics from Pennsylvania State University, and has authored and co-authored numerous research papers in internationally recognised journals.
His tenure has seen Rhodes continue its legacy of academic excellence – where leaders learn.
‘Rhodes Alumni in London have not had a chance to come together since 2019 and this gathering is long overdue. Catching up on news from campus as well as reconnecting with old friends gives us all an opportunity to both socialise and support,’ says Caroline Rowland, Chair of the Rhodes University UK Trust.
Professor Mabizela commented that the event ‘not only brings together Rhodes alumni, but also highlights the global imprint of Rhodes University. The UK Trust has been an instrumental tie between the university, the alumni community and current student body by promoting continuous support and collaboration between the pillars’.
