South Africa to Australia flights ramped up
South African travellers looking for flights to Australia this December will find even more capacity from South African Airways (SAA), now that it has ramped up flights to and from Johannesburg and Perth.
As reported by Travel News, starting 8 December , SAA will increase the frequency of its nonstop service from Johannesburg to Perth to four flights per week.
Then from 7 January 2025, the airline will increase to five flights per week on a year-round basis.
Flight schedule
According to the new flight schedule, flights will operate from 8 December as follows:
- Flights will depart Johannesburg on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 20:35, arriving in Perth, Australia at 12:10+1.
- Departing flights from Perth will then take off on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving in Johannesburg at 05:10+1.
Then, starting 7 January, the additional flight will depart Johannesburg on Mondays, returning to Perth, Australia on Tuesdays.
A returning route to Australia
SAA’s Johannesburg to Perth route officially resumed this past April, marking the second intercontinental route to be reopened within 6 months of the successful launch of the Sao Paulo, Brazil route.
CEO of SAA, Professor John Lamola, said that SAA’s operations to Perth were in line with the airline’s strategic plans to scale its operations to a profitable level by leveraging SAA’s unique capabilities as a national carrier with wide-body aircraft that can provide South Africa with long-haul intercontinental air connectivity.
“Besides the global interconnectivity potential of this route, Perth has long been a favoured destination for South African and Australian travellers, with approximately 80% of our target market being visiting family and friends,” Lamola said.
“The recommencement of the route provides an easier and direct passage for both leisure and business travellers, promoting trade and cultural exchange between South Africa and Australia” he added.
