Cape Town electricity: Important 7-hour maintenance will impact these areas

Certain areas of Cape Town will experience a power outage on Friday, 27 September, due to scheduled maintenance. Here are the areas that will be affected.

The City of Cape Town has announced that a required electricity supply interruption for planned maintenance will take place in certain areas on Friday, 27 September.

The planned maintenance work will affect residents in parts of Rocklands, Mitchells Plain and will start at from 9:00 – 16:00.

CITY OF CAPE TOWN ANNOUNCES CRITICAL ELECTRICITY MAINTENANCE

The City of Cape Town electricity generation and distribution department will be conducting critical electricity maintenance as mentioned above.

The municipality said that the seven-hour outage duration is an estimation and restoration could be delayed due to the complex nature of the infrastructure work. However, its teams will work as quickly as possible to complete the work within the communicated time.

Here are the affected areas:

  • Portion of Rocklands, Mitchells Plain, including the area off Spine Road along Weltevreden Road
  • Gladiator Road and surrounds
  • Sunderland Street and surrounds
  • Caravelle Road and surrounds
  • Kitty Hawk and Marauder and surrounds among others

POWER COULD BE RESTORED ANY TIME

The City of Cape Town said electricity supply could be restored at any time and customers must please treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the interruption.

“Residents are encouraged to switch off appliances as a precaution and to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on,” the metro said.

However, in the event that power is not restored within communicated timeframes, residents have been urged to check the the municipality’s official communication channels, including the social media channels. Alternatively, they can contact the call centre before logging a service request in relation to the planned maintenance work.
