WATCH – Irish rugby fans unhappy about local ‘Rassie’ song
New level of petty unlocked: A local muso has released a song dedicated to Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus, sampling Ireland hit song, ‘Zombie’
Afrikaans music act Rikus De Beer – also known as Radio Raps – has debuted a special ode to Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus ahead of South Africa’s match against Ireland this weekend.
This comes amid Irish fans’ warning to locals not to sample their struggle song – The Cranberries’ Zombie – during the upcoming game.
SA is set to play against one of their biggest rivals in two test matches on 6 and 13 July in Pretoria and Durban, respectively.

Despite a strong warning to South Africans, Rikus De Beer has released a full-length song to Rassie Erasmus, sampling The Cranberries’s Zombie.
The 1994 anti-terrorism track was written by the lead singer, Dolores O’Riordan, about the bombing in the town of Warrington that killed two young children and injured 54 others during The Troubles conflict in Northern Ireland.
Ireland rugby supporters were left fuming in the comments section of the song, naturally titled Rassie.
@dgeaney123: “If you lot actually took the time to understand the meaning behind this song, you wouldn’t be making silly rugby covers out of it. It’s extremely disrespectful to the late Dolores.”
@Conor_Dempsey: “Male Springbok supporters impersonating Irish female singers. Whatever next? We’re so in your heads.”
@SDERMOT: “Leave our song alone.”
Springboks fans, however, enjoyed ribbing their rivals, especially at the expense of Springboks coach, Rassie Erasmus.
@KyleWestman2: “Half-time show at Loftus for Saturday!”
@tanusha1008: “This should be sung after the national anthem at every game“.
@KieronDean5: “Never been more proud to be South African. Go Bokke!”
‘LEKKA DAY AT LOFTUS’
Meanwhile, Rassie Erasmus has taken a dig at the Irish with a tweet teasing the Springboks test match on home turf.
He tweeted from his popular X account: “The guys and ladies coming to Loftus, trust me, it will be special! You will definitely hear and feel the passionate support of the Irish fans – it’s amazing, from my experience! But also can’t wait for them to hear how passionate SA fans are!
He added: “It’s going to be a lekka day with small margins between the teams! No doubt the fan rivalry will spice up the game!”
