Springboks headline double header at Twickenham
A thrilling atmosphere awaits the Springboks as they face Wales in their 2024 season opener at Twickenham on June 22.
The countdown to watch the world champions Springboks return to action is nearly over. It’s been almost eight months since Siya Kolisi and his team clinched back-to-back World Cup titles, and a historic fourth Webb Ellis Cup overall.
A new World Cup cycle is now under way, and there will be plenty of expectation that follows every move of the Springboks as they head into their first Test since becoming world champions.
With Rassie Erasmus back as head coach, his charges will tackle Wales at Twickenham Stadium for the Qatar Airways Cup on Saturday, 22 June. Kick-off is at 15:00 (SA time).
The fixture will form part of a blockbuster ‘double header’ that will also see the Barbarians also taking on Fiji for the Killik Cup.
Both matches will showcase a host of international stars, but it is of course the world champion Springboks that will especially attract plenty of supporters to Twickenham.
The match-day squad for this opening Test of the season will be announced on Tuesday, and several newcomers are expected to earn inclusion alongside a few World Cup winners.
South Africa will have fond memories of Twickenham, with their last visit to the iconic stadium resulting in a sensational 35-7 record win on the eve of the World Cup.

The Springboks will then turn their attention to the Rugby Championship where they will line up against Australia in Brisbane and Perth (on 10 and 17 August) before facing arch-rivals New Zealand on consecutive weekends in South Africa – in Johannesburg on 31 August and Cape Town on 7 September.
They will then make a short trip to Argentina where they will face the Pumas in Santiago (on 21 September) and then in Nelspruit on 28 September.
This will be followed by the traditional year-end tour featuring Tests against Scotland in Edinburgh (10 November), England in London (16 November) and Wales in Cardiff (23 November)
