Brand Africa, recently presented its 2024 Brand Africa: South Africa rankings on 11 June and three top destinations in South Africa were named as special spots that have placed South Africa on the global map.

As per Tourism Update, the three top destinations: Cape Town, Kruger National Park and Soweto, were all recognised for their role in positively shaping South Africa’s identity and competitiveness.

The three places were also judged along with three events and experiences that shaped SA. For Cape Town this was the Rugby World Cups of 1995 and 2023. For Soweto it was FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup and for Kruger National Park it was South Africa’s ICJ case against Israel in 2024.

Brand Africa, ‘a movement that aims to inspire a brand-led African renaissance to drive the continent’s competitiveness and create a positive image’, based these rankings on comprehensive research conducted in 31 African countries between January and March 2024.

“The South African rankings and the 30 brands, events, campaigns and people are an
insightful lens into the country’s creativity, global African leadership, competitiveness and
influence,” Thebe Ikalafeng, founder and chairman of Brand Africa said in a release.

With Cape Town‘s overall mix of beauty, culture and history, it’s no wonder why it was included.

“We are committed to continuing our efforts to enhance the visitor experience, support local businesses, and ensure the benefits of tourism are felt throughout our communities.” James Vos, the Cape Town MMC for Economic Growth said as per Tourism Update.

With its diverse range of fauna and flora offerings, the Kruger National Park was also named as a leading destination.

“SANParks is delighted to have one of the world’s best travel destinations in its stable of properties. At the core of the successful conservation management efforts across SANParks’ national parks is responsible tourism offerings and a deliberate socioeconomic transformation programme that is embedded in community beneficiation. This recognition is seen in many posts and writings from guests on various platforms declaring KNP as one of the best places on earth to visit.” the national parks said in a statement.

Soweto concluded the trio of top destinations, celebrated for its history and culture and for being host of the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup.
