Mountains are without a doubt one of the world’s most popular natural beauty that people love to explore. But which mountains are regarded as the best of the best?
Entertainment site CanadaCasino recently analysed Instagram and TikTok hashtag data to reveal the most popular and most photographed mountains around the world and South Africa’s very own Table Mountain featured at number THREE on the list.
Recognised for its diverse wildlife, with 1 338 593 Instagram and TikTok posts tagged, Table Mountain beat out some of the most famous mountains in the world for the third position.
These include the Matterhorn in Switzerland and Mount Everest in Nepal and China.
Crowned the most picturesque mountain in the world and coming in at number one, Mount Fuji had a combined total of nearly 3.2 million hashtags on social media.
Japan’s tallest mountain had the most social posts of all, and just under 2.5 million Instagram posts tagged #MtFuji.
Mount Rainier in the USA, claimed the second spot, with a total of 1 351 511 social media posts tagged overall. This mountain boasts 829 090 posts tagged with #MtRainier on Instagram.

Table Mountain cableway to close for maintenance this July
In other Table Mountain news, the aerial cableway which operates on the mountain will be closing up shop from mid-July this year for extensive maintenance.
The cableway will shut down for seven long weeks, with Managing Director, Wahida Parker revealing that the shutdown will start on 15 July 2024 and end on 2 September 2024.
This particular maintenance, which is necessary to meet safety standards, will be the longest overhaul since the upgrade of the tourist attraction in 1997.
