Bafana includes just ONE Chiefs player in preliminary squad
It’s no surprise coach Hugo Broos wants to limit Chief’s representation in his Bafana squad, but look who made the preliminary cut.
After finishing third at the Afcon tournament, Bafana Bafana are now preparing for two upcoming international friendlies against Andorra and Algeria. Hugo Broos has named a 32-member preliminary squad for this ‘pilot project’, notably including just the solitary Chiefs player.
The friendlies will form part of a FIFA event that will run from 18 to 26 March 2024, and it will be the first time that Broos reunites with his team since beating DR Congo 6-5 on penalties in the Africa Cup of Nations third-place play-off.
Bafana will play the first match against Andorra on Thursday, 21 March, while they then face in Algeria on Tuesday, 26 March, before returning home on the following day.
The only Chiefs player included in the wider squad is Bruce Bvuma, who returns to the Bafana Bafana mix after some impressive performances.
Siyabonga Ngezana and Goodman Mosele are other in-form players who return to the national fold, but otherwise the majority of the Afcon squad has understandably been retained.
