Mamelodi Sundowns secure the Lucas Moripe Stadium as a venue where they will host TP Mazembe for this weekend’s clash.

Sundowns were looking for a venue as the Loftus Versfeld Stadium is unavailable because of a rugby match this weekend.

Media reports revealed that Sundowns were hoping to host Mazembe at FNB Stadium but the venue is also available.

SAPeople understands that Stadium Management SA is unable to help Sundowns at the venue.

#Unplayable and iDiski Times report that Sundowns will host the Group A tie versus Linafoot giants, Mazembe at Lucas Moripe.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS RETURN TO MORIPE FOR MAZEMBE CLASH

Masandawana will host their final Group A clash against Mazembe as they failed to secure the FNB as a home venue.

“Despite reports stating they would be playing at the iconic 2010 FIFA World Cup final venue,” says the publication about Sundowns.

iDiski Times had it confirmed by Stadium Management no agreement was made.

SUNDOWNS UNABLE TO HOST AT FNB, RETURN TO LUCAS MORIPE

A social media post by #Unplayable suggests that SMSA’s Bertie Grobbelaar confirms the development.

“As Stadium Management South Africa, we support football,” adds Grobbelaar about Sundowns.

“And we will always try to assist South African clubs with venue availability.

“And hosting of fixtures at the venues we manage.

“In this instance, we were approached by the management of Mamelodi Sundowns.

“On the possibility of hosting their upcoming CAF fixture on the 2nd of March at the FNB Stadium.

“Due to the congestion of these upcoming fixtures,

“There’s unfortunately no way we can assist with this request (from Sundowns).”

The continental clash between Sundowns and Mazembe will get underway on Saturday at 15:00.
