Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says the standard of football in the Premier Soccer League(PSL) needs to increase for the national team to become competitive.

This comes after Bafana finished third in the African Cup of Nations earlier this month.

For Bafana to do well in the future, PSL level has to increase, Hugo Broos said.

“Again, I will repeat it as much as you want, the PSL level has to increase.

“I’m very sorry, not physically or whatever but we talked about it a few minutes ago about tactical discipline and organisation. I see sometimes when I go to PSL games, then I wonder how are they playing now?

“There is no tactical discipline, players are running everywhere. You can’t do that at an international level, so you need discipline, tactical discipline and a plan,” said the Bafana coach.

Hugo Broos says if the team is well-organised and disciplined enough, it’s easier to make corrections.

“For me, my opinion is that we don’t need to play like South Africans if we want to achieve something on an international level.

“Many people came to me in Ivory Coast from different countries, and they said ‘you don’t play like South Africa usually plays’ and this is true. South African football is combinations and technical things, but football is so much more,” Broos added.

ANOTHER CHALLENGE AWAITS BAFANA AND BROOS

Bafana Bafana’s 2023 Afcon run was praised by many, who believe having eight Mamelodi Sundowns players in the starting 11 benefitted the team.
