Cape Town Spurs deny signing Khama Billiat

Cape Town Spurs have reportedly denied signing former Kaizer Chiefs winger Khama Billiat.

According to Soccer Laduma, the former Zimbabwean international is set for a return to Cape Town, having played for Ajax a decade ago before moving to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Having left Kaizer Chiefs before the start of the season, Billiat has not kicked a ball in over eight months. He recently trained with SuperSport United but the Pretoria-based club decided not to sign the 33-year-old.

“Spurs want to sign him. They have spoken to him and the deal is as good as done. It’s almost 90% done as I’m talking to you. The team wants to avoid relegation and they feel the addition of an experienced player like Billiat will help them in the second round,” Soccer Laduma said in a report.

Spurs Chief Operations Officer Shooz Mekuto told the publication that the was not a chance that the club would sign Billiat.

Since leaving Chiefs, the tricky winger has not publicly stated why he left Amakhosi but reports suggested that the star was not happy with what the club offered him.

The 33-year-old’s search for a new club might finally come to an end if he signs with Spurs.

After training for three days with SuperSport for three days, Billiat was reportedly told to stop coming to training.

“We are not going to sign him, so it’s pointless to continue training,” said SuperSport United CEO Stanley Mathews told Sunday World last month.
