Could Pitso Mosimane still be an option for Chiefs top job?
Pitso Mosimane has taken up a new job overseas, but having only agreed to a short-term move, Kaizer Chiefs could still come calling.
There have been persistent rumours that Pitso Mosimane could be a viable candidate to come in as head coach at Kaizer Chiefs, with the club looking for someone to take over permanently from interim coach Cavin Johnson.
Some recent reports suggested that Chiefs may even have officially tabled an offer to Mosimane and his representatives, but Kaizer Chiefs bosses insisted this was in fact “fake news”.

Since then, Mosimane has signed a contract with the Saudi Pro League side, the Abha Club.
Yet it should be noted that this is only a short-term deal, and although there is of course a strong possibility that the veteran coach could stay on, there is no clarity around this just yet.
Perhaps it could leave the door open for Chiefs to prepare an official offer to Mosimane to take up a permanent project at Naturena after his stint with the Abha club.
“The Chiefs management was happy to hear that Pitso (Mosimane) has signed a short-term deal with that club from Saudi Arabia,” a source told The Citizen. “Kaizer (Motaung) senior ias a fan of Pitso and when he said some time ago that only two local coaches could coach Chiefs, one of those coaches he was talking about was Pitso.”

WOULD PITSO BE INTERESTED?
Even before the end of last year, Mosimane effectively ruled out the possibility of coaching an African club any time soon, despite Chiefs being on the look out.

JOHNSON SET TO CONTINUE
A variety of different people have already been linked with the job, but there may not necessarily be a huge rush to replace caretaker coach Johnson until Chiefs are certain that everything is in order.
As it is, with Chiefs have shown clear signs of an encouraging resurgence towards the end of last year, it’s now reported by The Citizen that Johnson is set to continue at the helm of the side, and may even bag a permanent role if the team finishes the season on a high.
“With the way things have gone towards the end of last year, I don’t see coach Cavin going back to being the head of the academy. He has managed to bring back the smile to the management and most importantly the supporters,” a source was quoted as saying.
“Even though the search for the new coach continues, the Chiefs bosses believe coach Cavin is the right man for the job. It’s still early days, but the signs are there. They believe he is the perfect person to bring back the club to where it’s supposed to be. I think what makes them believe in him is that he has been in football for a long time and knows exactly what’s lacking at the club and what is required to make things right.”
