A popular hangout spot in Durban, Havana Music Café, has announced the closure of the business today, Tuesday, 23 January.
WHAT IS HAVANA MUSIC CAFE FAMOUS FOR?
Havana Music Café, situated in the Durban CBD and popular among the 90s generation, took to Facebook to announce the shutdown of the business.
“It brings us sadness to inform you that Havana Music Café’s journey has come to an end. We like to thank you for the support you given us for all these years. We will forever carry all the Memories we created and please share memories one more time,” management posted on the page.
Havana Music Café, once a go-to spot with endless fun, became an afterthought over the years due to varying factors, including the popping up of new and trendy hangout spots in much safer parts of Durban.

REVELLER REMEMBERS DURBAN’S OLD HANGOUT SPOT
“Memories were made here. We used to dance here back in those years and leave in the morning. We’ve seen it being renovated to become a very beautiful and classy place in the Durban CBD,” reminisced Sphesihle J Hadebe.
“It was the only remaining club left of the early 2000s. We also lost Spank, Coffee Town and this other one next to Shoprite South Beach but Havana remained standing,” he said.

EYADINI REMAINS CLOSED SINCE OWNER PASSING
Meanwhile, Eyadini Lounge in Umlazi, south of Durban remains closed after the death of its owner Thamsanqa “Mjeyi” Zama.

Nzama, a prominent businessman in Umlazi, made the township fashionable after promoting Eyadini to be the ultimate place to be.
Sadly, the 47-year-old businessman passed away on 12 August 2023, due to a stroke.
Although his family vowed to keep their father’s legacy alive, Eyadini remains closed since the funeral on 19 August 2023.
