Adulting S2: Nhlanhla Kunene on his ‘shocking’ breakout role

Fans of the Showmax series, Adulting are excited to see that the hit show has returned for a new season with lead actor, Nhlanhla Kunene returning.

In 2023 we were first introduced to four university friends who were living their own uniquely choatic lives after leaving varsity. From the quest of love, to the pursuit of success and everything in between, Adulting proved itself to be an instant hit. With demand so popular, Showmax decided to follow that up with a second season of Adulting before the end of the year and the first few episodes aired at the beginning of December.

For lead actor, Nhlanhla Kunene, who plays the role of Eric, it’s been a whirlwind of a ride.

ADULTING STAR NHLANHLA KUNENE ON ERIC STEALING THE SHOW

Nhlanhla Kunene’s character on Adulting, Eric, has proven to be a fan favourite after the first season. According to the actor, he was shocked to see his character becoming such a hit during the first season.

In a Showmax press release, Kunene said, “I was shocked. I initially thought the attention would be on Bonga because Thembinkosi is an amazing actor and the typical preference in South African storytelling is for characters with money and glamorous lives. So I was shocked when people started embracing Eric, and that even women found him appealing, despite his rough, ghetto background. I didn’t expect it at all.”

WHAT TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN S2

With Season 2 of Adulting already streaming on Showmax, fans have already caught a glimpse into what the story for the next chapter could hold. According to Nhlanhla Kunene, fans will be in for a genuine treat in the season ahead.

When speaking about how his character, Eric, will grow, the actor added, “Season 2 is quite a journey! The stage Ncumisa is in right now, going through her teenage years, contributes to it. Eric is entering uncharted territory as a father. He finds himself unsure of how to navigate fatherhood while raising a teenage girl. It’s an intense emotional journey that places Eric in a situation where he truly needs to show up as a father. You can be a gangster in the streets and do all sorts of things, but then you go home and you are required to be a father. Having to find a balance between the two posed a challenge but it was beautiful.”
