Voter registration: What you need to bring to the registration stations?
Ensure you have crucial documents for the voter registration weekend on 18 and 19 November 2023. Don’t forget any essentials!
In any democratic society, the right to vote is a fundamental aspect of civic participation. However, to exercise this right, eligible voters must go through a registration process, and having the necessary identification is crucial.
In an effort to streamline this process, the Home Affairs department encourages all eligible voters to collect their IDs during the Registration Weekend on 18-19 November 2023.

“We encourage all clients and eligible voters who have applied for IDs to visit their Home Affairs offices to collect their IDs over the Registration Weekend of 18-19 November 2023,” said the Department of Home Affairs.
To enhance efficiency and reduce waiting times, Home Affairs has introduced dedicated counters for ID collections in large offices handling Smart ID Cards and passports.

This strategic move aims to alleviate the pressure on clients and create a more organised system.
DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR VOTERS REGISTRATION
The accepted forms of identification include the green, bar-coded ID book, smartcard ID, or a valid Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC). No other forms of ID or copies are acceptable.
Upon application, visit your local IEC office, complete the registration form, and have your identity document scanned.

A barcoded sticker is then affixed to your green ID book or valid Temporary Identity Certificate. It’s crucial to understand that completing the form and receiving a barcoded sticker or receipt signifies application, not registration.
APPLICATION UNDERGOS PROCESSING OF UP TO 7 WORKING DAYS
The application must undergo processing, a procedure that may take up to 7 working days. Ensuring that all eligible voters follow these steps contributes to a smoother and more efficient voter registration process, upholding the integrity of the democratic system.
